The Economics of Renewable Energy

Renewable energy has been the coming thing for so many years that it is difficult to appreciate that it has very probably now arrived. Technology is still developing apace and the picture is still somewhat muddled. However, the introduction of Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) for small scale electricity generation earlier this year now means that realistic business plans can be made.

This seminar will take a look at the impact of FITs from a practical business perspective across the range of technologies.

There will be plenty of opportunities for questions and it is hoped many people from this dynamic industry will attend to give their latest news. This free meeting will be followed by drinks and a buffet.

Chairman

Archie Montgomery
Local farmer Archie Montgomery has long been a spokesman in favour of adopting renewable energy technologies both through the NFU and other organisations. He is a miscanthus grower, has installed a community heat system run on woodchip in a property redevelopment in his farmyard and is Chairman of the Ecozone at the Bath and West Show. Archie will also be explaining the exciting plans for a Solar Photo-Voltaic power plant on 35 acres of the Bath and West Showground.

Speakers

Mark Neath - Associate Director Old Mill
Mark has had a long term interest in renewable energy working on a number of significant projects including helping with the winning of a significant grant for an £2.2million Anaerobic Digestion project at a Dairy in north Dorset. He will be examining how the sums now work in a variety of scenarios.

James Miles Hobbs of JMH Associates
James is a consultant at the sharp end. He has been involved at a practical level on many renewable energy projects - from small farm scale upwards.
